Book in Polish by Ewelina Sadanowicz. Witchcraft and witchcraft in central and eastern Europe, Poland or Belarus in modern times has a huge number of press and scientific publications. Often quacks were written about in vital times, i.e. in the 19th and 20th centuries. (...) In recent decades they have become the protagonists of press articles, especially in cases of the tragic consequences of their practices. Whisperers from Podlasie have gained some popularity in the national press as amazing examples of the vitality of ancient beliefs, healing and magic (...). These press reports made on the basis of reporter's excursions, e.g. to Orla, have documentary value, but they are also full of superficiality and naivety (...). Against this background, Ewelina Sadanowicz's work is exceptional, credible and valuable. It was written from the standpoint of ethnology and cultural anthropology, on the basis of the author's ethnographic research, through 'participant observation' and 'autoethnography'. Sadanowicz comes from Podlasie, so she knows local life "inside out". (...)
